Does anyone else constantly have issues with keychain frequently asking whether a specific program has permission to use a password? Specifically, I have this issue with Mail and Safari. I can't really pin the problem down, but it seems to occur right after a restart/login. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying when Mail asks if it can use the mailbox passwords. I click 'Always Allow' but apparently 'always' is short for 'until you log out'.

Yeah, Mail does that to me too. Only when I first log in.

I only see this issue after installing a security update, which I'm not surprised about.

It always happens to me after installing software updates and restarting...they must reset something in it? That's basically the only time I ever restart, so I dunno if it does that during a normal restart too...maybe I'll check sometime.

Does your password have more than 8 characters?

That depends on which password you mean. My user password does, mailboxes have various lengths, some under, some over, same keychain issue with all.

It seems to happen more often with accounts that have a login password of more than 8 characters. I'm not sure exactly why, but it seems to be related to the fact that only the first 8 characters are significant for logging in (i.e., if you type in the first 8 characters of your password, no matter how long the rest of it is, OS X will log you in) but not for the Keychain.

Since I changed my password to an 8-character one I've only seen those prompts after software updates. It could be a coincidence.

After every software update, all security permissions are reset, so for every app you must again authorize access to the keychain. My friend at Apple assures me this is a feature, not a bug.
